The Basking Shark is second only to the Whale Shark as the largest living fish. Ever see one of these? They «bask» close to the surface, feeding at or close to the surface, near shorelines in 48 to 58F water. Can be as big as 40 ft long.Even though the basking shark is large and slow, it can breach, jumping entirely out of the water. This behaviour could be an attempt to dislodge parasites or commensals.
